Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will use the military to solve the country’s domestic problems and quell unrest if he wins the election.
Publika.az reports that the “New York Times” newspaper wrote about it.
“During his first term as president, Trump failed to implement his vision of using troops to enforce laws on US soil. But he has made it clear that he intends to use the military for a number of domestic law enforcement purposes if he returns to power. This includes patrolling the border, suppressing protests and even fighting crime in major cities controlled by Democrats,” the paper said.
According to the publication, Trump’s team is currently working on the legal basis of the issue of involving the army to solve the country’s internal problems.
Thus, in the United States, the use of the army within the state is limited by the “Posse Comitatus Act” dated 1878. This law criminalizes the use of regular federal troops for domestic purposes. However, the Mutiny Act of 1807 gives the president extraordinary powers to use internal military forces to restore order if he believes the situation so requires.
Back in February, Trump said that if he is re-elected as America’s leader, he will close the country’s border and begin mass deportations of illegal immigrants.
It should be noted that the 60th presidential election in the United States is scheduled for November 5, 2024.
