The announcement of the conclusion of an agreement between Israel and Hamas, made by Donald Trump the day before last night, was welcomed by all chancelleries and described as a victory for the American president. The latter, who had put all his weight in the balance, increased the pressure on the two belligerents and his determination paid off. Great prospects are opening up. A release of hostages and many Palestinian prisoners will take place and a ceasefire is planned.

The American president had affirmed, on several occasions, that the signing of a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas would take place very quickly despite the worsening situation in the Gaza Strip. The international community had increased protests against the attitude of Israel, which seemed determined to carry out its policy of occupation of Palestinian territory to the end. The Jewish State has benefited from the unfailing support of American diplomacy in international forums. He benefited from the American veto during the vote on a resolution calling for an end to hostilities between the two camps. However, American special envoys have not stopped working to achieve their goals. They established contacts with Hamas. Leaders of the Palestinian movement agreed to listen to American proposals. They decided to study them. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed that his country was in favor of the peace plan of the tenant of the White House. All that remained was Hamas’ response. The latter expressed some reservations on certain points of the agreement proposed by the American administration. Ultimately, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was able to convince the Palestinian organization to accept the principle. It provides for the release of all Israeli hostages held by Hamas and many Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons. A ceasefire will come into effect immediately. It ends two years of a deadly war and was greeted with cheers in Israel and Palestine.
