US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he wanted the Federal Ministry of Education to be closed immediately, Reuters reported.
Trump said last week that he would like to close the ministry by decree, but admitted that he would need the support of congress and teaching unions to fulfill this promise from his election campaign.
Immediate closure of the ministry would lead to problems with the allocation of tens of billions of dollars to schools, Reuters notes.
Trump spent his first few weeks in power in making major changes in the US government by asking workers remotely federal employees to return to work in attendance or to leave. He is also looking for ways to reduce costs and jobs and tries to close services such as the USA International Development Agency (USAID).
Trump suggested that the Ministry of Education be closed during its first term (2017-2021), but Congress did not take action.
Conservative mental trusts that call for the closure of the ministry say other services can manage its programs and carry out its activities.
