Trump references assassination attempt at Michigan rally

Former US President Donald Trump said he “took a bullet for democracy” at a rally in Michigan, referring to the assassination attempt.

Trump made reference to the assassination attempt that took place in Pennsylvania on July 13 at his first rally with JD Vance, whom he announced as his vice presidential candidate.

Speaking to supporters at the arena where thousands of people gathered, Trump said Democrats had identified him as “a threat to democracy” and that he was ready to take back the White House.

This is also Trump’s first rally since being officially announced as the Republican nominee.

Trump supporters who came to the square to support him told the BBC that the assassination attempt, which left one person dead and two others injured, would not deter them from coming to the rally.

Some supporters said they were not worried about themselves because of the large number of police officers but were afraid for Trump, and blamed the US Secret Service for failing to protect him.

Some even said they came to the square just to support Trump.

An investigation is still underway into the attempted attack that left Trump injured in the ear.

Unlike the one in Pennsylvania, the rally in Michigan was held in a closed hall so security guards could carefully check everyone entering and exiting.

In his speech, Trump thanked the thousands of people who came to the rally exactly one week after the assassination attempt and said, “I stand before you by the will of Almighty God.”

Crooks reportedly flew a drone over the rally

The FBI announced that the suspect who was killed at the scene of the assassination attempt was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.

It was stated that it has not yet been determined why he planned the assassination attempt.

According to reports in the US media based on statements from officials, Thomas Matthew Crooks was flying a UAV in the area before the assassination attempt.

It was not clear whether this happened hours or days ago, according to CBS, the BBC’s media partner in the US.

Investigators told CBS they were still trying to determine when Crooks first flew the drone, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

It is thought that the UAV was used to choose the place with the best view of the stage where Trump was speaking.

Crooks fired several shots from a rooftop overlooking the area where Trump was speaking.

Trump’s supporters are putting bandages on his ears in tribute to his injury to his ear.

Since the assassination attempt, there has been greater caution regarding threats against presidential candidates.

Two people who targeted Trump and Biden on social media in two separate incidents in Florida were taken into custody.
