After several days of threats, Donald Trump’s government is asking the federal agencies to cancel the remaining contracts with Harvard University on Tuesday.
It was announced today a senior White House official to local media.
The Government has already canceled more than 2.6 billion dollars in federal research grants for the Ivy League school, which in turn has rejected the demands of the administration of changes in several of its policies.
“The General Services Administration (GSA) will send a letter to federal agencies today asking them to identify any contract with Harvard, and if they can be canceled or redirected to another place,” said the senior official.
A GSA letter draft orders agencies to review contracts with the university and seek alternative suppliers.
The official spoke about anonymity to describe internal deliberations.
The cuts mark the last escalation in a fighting months between the Trump administration and the oldest university in the United States, and possibly the most prestigious of the nation.
A copy of the letter, obtained by NBC News, instructs the agencies to respond to the GSA with a list of contracts that have ended the university before June 6.
“In the future, we also encourage your agency to seek alternative suppliers for future services where Harvard had previously considered,” underlines the letter signed by John Gruenbaum, the Commissioner of the Federal Procurement Service of the GSA.
Gruenbaum described the administration’s actions as civil rights reinforcements.
He accused Harvard of challenging a ruling from the Supreme Court that prohibited the consideration of the breed in his process of admission and “continuous inaction” for the harassment of his Jewish students.
The directive arrives a day after Trump said in a publication in Truth Social that he was considering removing 3 billion subsidy money of what he called “a very anti -Semitic Harvard,” and instead give the funds to commercial schools.
The dispute between the Government and Harvard is largely derived from the University’s refusal to meet the broad demands of the Trump administration work group to combat anti -Semitism last month.
In response, the administration stripped the University of 2 billion dollars in federal research funds.
The government also sought to block Harvard’s ability to register foreign students last week, an effort that was temporarily blocked by a federal judge after the university demanded.
