A few days before the return of La Yein Fonda, the National Stadium Park is getting ready to welcome the thousands of people who will spend the Fiestas Patrias to the rhythm of the powerful line-up of artists. Together with them, from the September 18-21there will be more than a dozen emerging singers and local groups that will perform on the two stages of the emblematic inn. One of them will be the ‘Cecilia Special’ by Mariel Mariel with the musicians Galtter Álvarez and Cristián Molina.
Mariel Mariel He grew up listening to Cecilia’s songs, but it was after her death that he began to pay tribute to her. The day after her passing, together with Galtter Álvarez (guitar), they performed an improvised four-hour concert in front of Cecilia’s house in Villa Frei, Ñuñoa. This group was joined by Cristián Molina on bandoneon, an instrument that brings the tango elegance, melancholy and bohemian touch that remind us of La Incomparable.
Regarding this tribute, the artist comments that it is a tribute through music, a show of gratitude for the musical treasure she left us. Along these lines, she adds that “I don’t do it from an imitation point of view, although to play Cecilia, you have to sing ‘like Cecilia’, so I play at putting my voice in her register and demands, which are very high and not at all easy; for me it is a huge challenge, that’s why I enjoy it.”
She also clarifies that she does not wear Cecilia’s look, “nor do I do her dance steps, although some kisses with heels always come up, because this tribute is dedicated to Cecilia as I knew her, in a more mature stage, of sitting down to talk, of contemplating, of putting on a record and filling herself with music. It is an unplugged, porteño, elegant sound that invites you to delight in the beauty of these songs.”
For Mariel Mariel, Cecilia is the great Chilean popular artist of the 20th century, “He made a difference in the 60s by bringing popular music from around the world into his repertoire, and his level of vocal interpretation is very high. His personal style and story are also something special. I feel and enjoy it as a personal mission to revive these songs and let this nostalgic energy flow into the most beautiful memories or awaken the imagination and curiosity of those of us who were not yet born in that era.”
In 2008, legendary singer Cecilia left her mark on La Yein Fonda, captivating the audience with her unmistakable style and hits that have marked generations. Her participation added a special touch to the event, consolidating her relevance in the Chilean music scene.
The public will be able to enjoy the ‘Cecilia Special’ on Friday, September 20 at 2:40 p.m. on the main stage of La Yein Fonda.
