Traffic disruption, noise pollution and visual pollution for three weeks

Propaganda carnivals cause huge traffic jams in several streets of the capital.

The electoral campaign for the legislative elections on May 29 officially began this Wednesday. Apart from a lively atmosphere, anarchy reigns.

For the past two days, following the official opening of the electoral campaign, anarchy has reigned in the capital and in the outlying districts. While the big teams began their propaganda with carnivals causing huge traffic jams, the electoral uproar is at its height. The Tananarivians live to the rhythm of a topsy-turvy countryside. Traffic embarrassment, noise pollution and visual pollution, the three weeks of propaganda risk being unpleasant for citizens who no longer know where to stand in the face of this confusion.

Perturbations

Since this Wednesday, areas where traffic is usually very fluid have been faced with hours of traffic jams, causing the discontent of certain users who were caught off guard. This Thursday, for example, it took two hours to make the Ankadimbahoaka-Androndra axis, during a carnival organized by a candidate from the platform for the presidential majority in the 2nd arrondissement. This was also the case in Ambolokandrina with candidate Firaisankina. The working-class neighborhoods of the capital are also being taken over by these seduction operations which, until now, have only generated frustration. Added to this is noise pollution. Activities that resemble disruptions because apart from calls to vote, the candidates’ programs are barely mentioned.

Non-compliance with law

At the same time, the poster battle rages on. In the 3rd arrondissement, for example, a candidate complains that his opponent’s poster posters are purposely putting posters on his own. In reality, candidates put up their posters everywhere and even in places where propaganda is prohibited. In any case, future parliamentarians are already shining through their non-compliance with the law. According to article 104 of organic law n°2018-008, relating to the general regime of elections and referendums, “ It is prohibited to post electoral propaganda posters in public places other than those provided for this purpose. “. Which is not the case because even on panels of Taxi Be lines, future deputies dare to put up their posters.

Great means

Despite the disruption it causes, after a failed presidential campaign, we are witnessing very lively propaganda. From the first day, the artists were already there. The big teams have already pulled out all the stops to attract as many voters as possible. Not only is money flowing freely with the t-shirts bearing their image flooding the neighborhoods and the posters found everywhere, but we are also facing an embryo of tense verbal jousting. The population living in a difficult situation can, on the other hand, find something free to eat for these three weeks of propaganda.
