Traditional midwives from Angola improve their knowledge in Bengo

A total of fifty-six women traditional midwives from the commune of Barra do Dande, Bengo province, are updating their techniques to improve care for pregnant women.

The training course, lasting six days, is promoted by the Provincial Office of Social Action, Family and Gender Equality and in it participants are improving their knowledge about the profile of the traditional midwife, interpersonal communication, pregnant women, care during pregnancy , hygiene and postpartum, in order to reduce the greatest risks in communities.

Danger signs during pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, family planning, vaccination of the mother and child, breastfeeding, as well as nutrition will also be covered in the seminar that aims to improve the service provided by traditional midwives in different communities.

Speaking to Angop, the head of the Department of Family, Gender Equality, Francisco André de Sousa, highlighted the importance of training traditional midwives in communities.

He stressed that the institution will continue to invest in the training, training and retraining of traditional midwives in all municipalities in the province, counting on social partners.

The person in charge appealed to the participants to absorb as much as possible the knowledge that is being transmitted to better carry out their activity in caring for pregnant women, as well as assisting during childbirth.

The seminar is part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign program, taking place from the 25th to the 10th of December this year.
