With the fishing ban ending tonight at sea, fishermen from Trabzon left the port to take their nets to the sea. The fishermen set out to sea saying “Vira bismillah” for the fishing season, which was opened with marches by the janissary band, folklore shows and prayers.
The general hunting ban for bottom trawling and purse seine nets, which started on April 15 in the seas, ends as of September 1. The 2024-2025 fishing season in Trabzon opened with a ceremony held at the Çarşıbaşı district fishing shelter. Trabzon Governor Aziz Yıldırım, Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Gürkan Üçüncü, Trabzon Agriculture Provincial Director İsa Kaplan, AK Party Trabzon Deputies Vehbi Koç and Yılmaz Büyükaydın and Coast Guard Eastern Black Sea Group Commander Major Aytaç Bayırlı, fishing cooperative members, ship owners and crew attended the ceremony. The fishing season, which was opened with the marches of the Janissary band, folklore shows and prayers, was opened by the fishermen who set out to sea saying “Vira bismillah” and left the port to bring their nets to the sea.
‘MAY YOUR CATCHING BE BLESSED’
Speaking at the ceremony, Trabzon Governor Aziz Yıldırım said, “I hope the upcoming season will be much more fruitful than the last season. I hope its production will be much more abundant. I hope all our fishermen will have a season without any accidents or troubles, that they will catch plenty of fish and put them on the stalls provided that the seas do not dry up, and that they will be sold on the stalls at more economical conditions. We pray for it to be fruitful. Fruitfulness is not in abundance. The meaning of fruitfulness is different in our culture and belief. That is why I say that what you catch is fruitful rather than catching a lot of fish.”
