Tourism in Mexico close to pre-pandemic figures

In 2023, Mexico is approaching pre-pandemic tourism levels, with a total of 42,153,077 international tourists visiting the country. This figure represents a 10% increase over the previous year and is close to the peak reached in 2019, when 45,024,453 visitors were recorded before the pandemic.

The growth of international tourism in Mexico has shown a positive trend since 2021with annual variations of 31.2% in 2021 and 20.3% in 2022. This year, the 10% increase in the number of international tourists reflects the continued recovery of the sector following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foreign exchange earnings on the rise

Foreign exchange earnings generated by international tourist spending have also shown significant growth. In 2023, these earnings reached US$2,288.5 million, and are expected to rise to US$2,464.6 million in 2024, underscoring the importance of tourism for the Mexican economy.
