Totalcar – Tests – Test: Skoda Enyaq Coupe RS iV

It was not difficult to find the test car in the parking lot of Porsche Hungaria. The Enyaq Coupe RS in Mamba Green creates a strong contrast in the abundance of mostly darker colored cars. It is not surprising that few cars are available in a similar bright color, and few people want to stand out like this in the long run. Nevertheless, I was taken in by the sight, especially since it suits him surprisingly well.

It also stood out in Parkoló Parád among the test cars at the editorial office at the time.

However, despite the color, the understated sporty appearance is characteristic of the Enyaq Coupe RS. Its front spoilers are different, the chrome bezels are replaced by gloss black, and the illuminated grille is standard equipment. It would have fit more than that, but then it would have gone against 23 years of RS tradition. If you want to stand out, you have to make do with the accent color, and if that’s not enough, you’re knocking on the wrong brand.

There is something good about…

The charm of the eye-catching paintwork lasts for several days, but it is the interior that really captivated me. Here, only the stitching, the seat and the thicker handlebars remind you that this is the Enyaq RS. Beneath the mildly sporty design lies a practical, comfortable family car that will quickly become your favorite.

One of its charms is that the image was not exaggerated inside, just so spectacular that it does not distract us and does not come at the expense of practicality. Even the futuristic and/or minimalist mainstream typical of electric cars could not dissuade the Czechs from this, only the central display was given a greater role, since, among other things, the climate panel with physical buttons and the mode selector were condensed into one button.

The void left by this was filled with an unnecessarily deep phone holder with induction charging and a huge storage compartment. A similar sin is the small instrument unit that only communicates essential information, which is completed by a head-up display. That’s the end of my complaints about the interior winded.

We get plenty of storage between the two front seats, the door pockets are large, the card and small holder are still useful, the steering wheel is full of physical buttons and even the seat is comfortable for long drives.

Such advantages are not lost in the second row and in the trunk either. Despite the flat roof, the headroom of the rear row of seats is not impaired, and the legroom is princely due to the 2765 mm wheelbase, even though the sports seats take up a lot of space. Air conditioning and a phone charger have also arrived here, as well as the sun visor and fold-out armrests contribute a lot to comfort. A 570-liter luggage compartment with hooks and side pockets can also fit behind such a space, which can be further expanded by folding down the seats. Thus, a 1.7-meter shoe cabinet mounted on a board can easily fit in it.

Coupe or not coupe, that’s the question:

The coupe version performs so much worse compared to the regular Enyaq that its luggage space is 15 liters smaller, but in the case of neither version we can talk about the size of the front luggage compartment, since they don’t have one. The coupe is four millimeters longer in front of the front axle, which is a minimal size difference, but this can even be a negative in the city. However, the drag coefficient of the coupe is 0.023 better, 0.234. This means an extra 15 km of range, but it is almost HUF 800,000 more expensive.

The interior of the Skoda Enyaq Coupe makes you easily forget that this is an RS variant, just as it is hardly noticeable that there is less space in it due to the size or design of the seats. RS here, RS there, this is a Skoda in which practicality and comfort are a priority.

It has some average…

Both the front and rear axles of the Enyaq Coupe RS are driven by an electric motor, which makes the car heavier, and if it’s heavier, it consumes more – such is physics. In the city, I juggled an average consumption of 18 kWh/100 km on winter tires at the end of April, which is an average value, but if we learn from it, consumption of 15 is also unimaginable.

During the test period, however, I also took on a more long-term road test, which meant a Budapest – Zalaegerszeg – Budapest distance. I started the 500-kilometer tour with 100 percent charge, but I stopped twice along the way and in both cases I charged it to around 80 percent. At a speed of 130 km/h, the consumption came out to 20.3, on the way back this value was already 19.8. In other words, the range came out to nearly 380 kilometers on the highway. It is also capable of a maximum charging power of 135 kW in practice.

And there is something wrong with it

Since it is an RS, it is also necessary to talk about its sports car status, i.e. its absence. 299 horsepower and 460 Nm sound sufficient and sports car territory at first, but compared to the few sports electric cars currently available, the Enyaq RS is already weak.

Model Horsepower Peak torque 0-100 km/h acceleration WLTP range
Kia EV6 GT 585 LE 740 Nm 3,5 mp 424 km
Skoda Enyaq Coupe RS 299 LE 460 Nm 6,5 mp 548 km
Hyundai Ioniq 5N 650 LE 740 Nm 3,4 mp 448 km
Tesla Model Y Performance 534 LE 660 Nm 3,8 mp 514 km
M-B EQE SUV AMG 53 4MATIC+ 625 LE 1000 Nm 3,5 mp 470 km
BMW 3 Series M3 619 LE 1100 Nm 3,8 mp 566 km

From the above couple of examples, it can be seen that, with the exception of the range, the Skoda is significantly inferior to its rivals. This is mitigated only by the fact that the 2024 versions already have 340 horsepower and 679 Nm max. they know torque. The 0-100 sprint is still 5.5 seconds, which is a lot. (The test car was a 2023, weaker model).

It could be redeemed that if it is weak according to paper, it can at least be controlled well and it is a pleasure to drive, but this is not true for it either. Despite the all-wheel drive, the Enyaq RS is nose-heavy, which can quickly be experienced when taking a faster turn. This wouldn’t be so much of a problem, but the car weighs 2.3 tons, which means that understeer can easily turn into a drift.

The sports suspension can help a lot, but in this case it only takes away rather than giving. At least there is an adaptive, adjustable shock absorber as an extra, but this is only available as part of the HUF 1.4 million Max RS package.

Its steering in comfort mode is very light and airy, while in sport mode it is much heavier, but still synthetic. The high seating position has an additional negative effect on the experience, which makes you feel the speed less.

They tried to give the Enyaq Coupe RS everything that should make it sporty, but it still requires a more relaxed driving style.

From this, you will buy 199,000 text highlighters

The Skodas are still outstanding in terms of price-value ratio, but something has slipped with the Enyaq Coupé, and especially with the RS – the latter starts at HUF 30 million. And the test car threatens with a HUF 32 million price tag.

Compared to the aforementioned cars, the price tag is still only slightly higher than the average, but only because Mercedes and BMW are already in the premium segment. You can only buy Model Y Performance (22.4 million forints) and Ioniq 5 Nt (29 million forints) cheaper than this – but actually buying one of the latter is much more difficult due to the huge demand.

It’s hard to argue against the Enyaq Coupe RS. Skoda tried to make the Enyaq Coupé sporty, but failed. We got it instead a great family car, with slightly better performance than the basic version, which lacks exactly what it was designed for, and at an expensive price.
