Only in September will it be decided for sure how much the highway stickers for Hungarian highways will cost next year, but it is almost certain that the increase will be much more modest than this year’s double-digit price increase.

According to the current regulations, the price of road stickers may rise in 2025 by the rate of inflation for the twelve months of August this year. According to one of the forecasts included in the latest analysis of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, published in June, an inflation result of around 2-6 percent is expected in August. The significant difference between the extremes of 2 and 6 percent can be explained by the uncertainty factors of the prognosis. In other words, even the most unfavorable August inflation index of around 6 percent is well below the 16.4 percent of last August, which is the basis of this year’s road sticker price increase.

Estimate for 2025

Based on the expected August inflation of 2-6 percent, the following prices can be expected in the passenger car, D1 and D2 categories. It is strictly an estimate, the specific prices will be revealed in the 2025 sticker price decree.

According to the estimate, the price of a weekly to 10-day sticker for regular passenger cars can be 6,500-6,800 forints, and the annual fee for the same can be 58-61 thousand forints.

In addition to the trend of inflation, the fact that there were examples of tolls being set differently from the law also means uncertainty.

There was a differentiated price increase before last year. For annual stickers, the price increase was only 5 percent from 2023, while for their weekly and monthly counterparts, you had to pay 44-71 percent more than a year earlier.

As of January 2023, the prices of the stickers did not increase uniformly. The price of the annual national sticker and the county sticker increased by 5 percent. At the same time, the 10-day and monthly passes rose significantly to HUF 8,900, and the 10-day sticker to HUF 5,500, which represented a 71 and 44 percent price increase compared to the 2022 prices.
