Tomás Vodanovic enters the top ten of political leaders with the face of a presidential candidate

The Political Leadership Monitor (MLP) for May, prepared by Datavoz, reveals a significant change in the perceptions of the country’s political leaders.

Evelyn Matthei continues to dominate positive mentions, with an increase of 7.3 percentage points, reaching 39.4%. The strength of her image has consolidated in the last five months, going from a net evaluation of 9.9% to 33.5%.

José Antonio Kast also shows an increase in positive mentions, rising 4.2 percentage points, reaching 11.7%. Rodolfo Carter, meanwhile, follows the same trend, growing 3.7 percentage points to reach 10.6%.

Tomás Vodanovic constitutes the big news with his incorporation into the top 10which reflects a change in public perception towards emerging political leaders, showing a positive trend in their recognition and approval.

Another novelty comes from the extreme right, with the figure of Johannes Kaiser, who has lowered his negative rating, while increasing his positive rating, remaining slightly below Carolina Tohá, with 9.24 percentage points for the parliamentarian. and a 9.74 for the Minister of the Interior.

Negative mentions

President Gabriel Boric leads the negative mentions with 33.15%, followed by Camila Vallejo (21.44%) and Carolina Tohá (20.94%). On the right, José Antonio Kast is the leader with the greatest rejection, accumulating 16.86%.

A notable fact is the sustained increase in negative mentions of Daniel Jadue, who went from 5.66% in March to 18.51% in May, indicating a deterioration in his public perception.

Since May 2023, the MLP has focused on capturing respondents’ spontaneous opinions on political leaders, without providing predefined lists. This methodology allows a more authentic vision of the “Brand Awareness” of political actors, offering a genuine perspective of how they are perceived by citizens.

Paulina Valenzuela, founding partner of Datavoz, highlights the importance of these findings: “One of the most relevant findings of May is the strength of the positive image of Matthei, who has had sustained growth in the last 5 months in his net evaluation. The attributes that are the basis of this evaluation are clarity, consequence and ideas, central aspects in the development of political leadership.”
