The government of Kazakhstan should take measures to liberalize the economy, the main direction of which will be to start effective privatization.
Publika.az reports that this was said by the president of the republic, Kasim-Jomart Tokayev, at the general meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to him, uncontrolled monopolies, unequal access to resources and unfair competition methods should be eliminated. Previous privatization plans did not work because they were formed on the basis of the residual principle.
As an example, Tokayev mentioned excessive regulation in the fuel and energy market, which led to a decrease in the production of certain oil products and local shortages, as well as problems in the mobile communication market.
The head of state instructed the government to revise the register of state property and clarify the methodological aspects of the privatization process. He called the main task away from large-scale interference in economic processes.
Tokayev dismissed the Kazakh government on February 5. He explained this decision by the lack of initiative in the activities of Alikhan Smailov’s cabinet. The new prime minister was Oljas Bektenov, the former head of the presidential administration.
