Today is Lachin City Day.
Publika.az reports that Lachin City Day is being celebrated in Azerbaijan for the second time.
Thus, Lachin City Day is solemnly celebrated on August 26 every year in accordance with the Decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev last July.
The celebration of the significant day on this date is related to the deployment of the Azerbaijani Army in the city of Lachin on August 26, 2022. On the same day, President Ilham Aliyev announced the good news about the return of Azerbaijanis to the city of Lachin on the “X” social network.
The text shared by the head of state on this day of 2022 reads: “Today, on August 26, we, the Azerbaijanis, have returned to the city of Lachin. The Azerbaijani Army has settled in the city of Lachin. The villages of Zabukh and Sus have been taken under control. I congratulate all the people of Lachin and the people of Azerbaijan on this occasion. Long live Lachin! Long live Azerbaijan!”.
Thus, on August 26, the State Flag of Azerbaijan was raised in the city of Lachin. The Commander of the Army Corps, Major General Kanan Seyidov reported to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev, about the deployment of the Azerbaijani Army to the city of Lachin.
The National Flag of Azerbaijan has been flying in the center of Lachin for two years now.
It should be noted that as a result of the military aggression of Armenia, our ancient historical lands, which were occupied for nearly 30 years, were freed from occupation by military and political means in the 44-day Patriotic War, and every day leading to the glorious Victory was written in golden letters in the history of Azerbaijan.
The cities of Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Zangilan, Gubadli, Minjivan, Aghband, Bartaz settlements of Zangilan district, Hadrut settlement of Khojavend district and many villages, Sugovushan village of Tartar district, several villages of Khojaly and Lachin districts were destroyed in the Patriotic War at the cost of the lives and blood of soldiers and officers of the brave Azerbaijan Army. In total, more than 300 settlements, including the village, as well as important strategic heights in the directions of Aghdara, Murovdag and Zangilan were freed from occupation. The war ended with the liberation of the city of Shusha, the crown of Karabakh, and Armenia being forced to sign the act of capitulation.
Azerbaijan’s great victory on the battlefield was confirmed on the political level as well – Armenia was forced to liberate Aghdam, Kalbajar and Lachin regions from occupation, and thus historical justice was restored. According to the tripartite statement signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia after the Patriotic War ended with the victory of Azerbaijan, Lachin region was handed over on December 1, 2020.
During the 30-year occupation, our cities, villages, and settlements were destroyed by Armenia, our cultural heritage was severely damaged, and our historical, cultural and religious monuments and mosques were destroyed and vandalized. Freed from occupation, Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur are currently being rebuilt, the areas are cleared of mines, large-scale restoration and reconstruction works are being carried out rapidly.
For the return of internally displaced persons to their native lands, the implementation of the “I State Program on the Great Return to the Territories Freed from Occupation of the Republic of Azerbaijan” approved by the Order of the President of Azerbaijan No. 3587 dated November 16, 2022 has been started. The return of IDPs to the city of Lachin has already started and the work in this direction is continuing.
In addition to the city of Lachin, reconstruction and restoration works are also underway in Zabukh and Sus.
