TNI Shoots Two OPM Members, One of them is Prada defector Danis Murib

JAKARTA – TNI troops continue to pursue members Free Papua Organization (OPM) under the command of Undius Kogoya who killed and burned a civilian named Rusli (40). This incident occurred in the East Paniai District, some time ago.

Commander of the Habema Koops Media Task Force, Lt. Col. Arh Yogi Nugroho, said that the OPM group fled to Bibida District, which is located next door to East Paniai District, Paniai Regency.

“The TNI pursuit operation continued with success in capturing the Bibida District area, which had been controlled by the OPM, on Friday, June 14 2024,” said Yogi, Monday (17/6/2024).

The success of the seizure of the Bibida area apparently has not dampened OPM’s intention to continue to disrupt security and a conducive situation in the Bibida area.

In this situation, community leaders representing the voices of Bibida residents expressed their support for the Pursuit and Enforcement Operation to the OPM.

As a result, the Commander of the Joint Regional Command (Kogabwilhan) III, Lieutenant General TNI Richard Tampubolon, ordered the Commander of the TNI Operations Command (Koops TNI) Habema along with the Commander of the Operations Implementation Command (Dankolakops) and the Commander of the Nanggala Kopassus Troop, to continue the Pursuit Operation on Monday, 17 June 2024 .

“As a result, the operation was successful and TNI Soldiers managed to shoot 2 OPM people, one of whom was confirmed to be Danis Murib, after the firefight,” said Yogi.

It is known that Danis Murib is a TNI deserter or deserter with the rank of Second Soldier (Prada). Danis is a member of the Yonif 527/Baladibya Yudha Kodam V/Brawijaya Task Force, which is carrying out military operations in Papua.

Meanwhile, Commander of the Joint Regional Command (Kogabwilhan) III, Lieutenant General TNI Richard Tampubolon, said that his party’s success in paralyzing Danis had shown the professionalism of TNI Soldiers in shooting at the end of the barrel, so they did not miss the target.

Furthermore, he said, the success of paralyzing Danis had also added to the list of names of dead OPM figures and reduced the strength of OPM personnel.

“The success of TNI Soldiers in shooting two OPM people, one of whom was Deserter Danis Murib, in Bibida, has reduced the strength of the OPM which of course has a positive impact on maintaining security stability for the smooth process of accelerating development in Papua,” said Richard.
