TMO started purchasing hazelnuts for 2024 crop in Ordu

The Soil Products Office (TMO) started purchasing hazelnuts for the 2024 crop in Ordu.

Producers who have completed the harvest in their gardens, put their hazelnuts in the thresher and then dried them, have started to bring their products to TMO as of today.

Producers who come to TMO’s warehouse in Turnasuyu Neighborhood of Gülyalı district deliver their products to the authorities.

The hazelnut sacks, which are checked by the officers, are then placed in the warehouse.

TMO buys Giresun quality hazelnuts for 132 lira per kilogram, Levant quality hazelnuts for 130 lira per kilogram and pointed hazelnuts for 125 lira per kilogram from producers with whom it has made an appointment in advance.

Arslan Soydan, a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey (TZOB), told reporters that TMO started hazelnut purchases in Ordu simultaneously in the Altınordu, Fatsa and Ünye districts, and that the office will purchase hazelnuts at 12 points throughout the province in the future.

Expressing that they attach great importance to TMO, Soydan said, “We see TMO as a guarantor that intervenes for hazelnuts in recent years. Producers also view TMO from this perspective. Producers can easily bring their products to TMO. TMO makes the producer earn compared to the free market.”

Soydan pointed out that TMO had previously determined the purchasing principles for in-shell hazelnuts and announced them to the public, and asked producers to pay attention to these purchasing principles.

Altınordu Chamber of Agriculture President Atakan Akça also wished that the process would bring goodness to the producers and the state.

Recalling that TMO opened the appointment system on August 12, Akça noted that appointments have been made for nearly 3 thousand tons of products since that date, and that this amount is quite significant.

Producer Ali Demir, who brought 500 kilograms of hazelnuts from Mesudiye district, expressed his happiness for giving hazelnuts to TMO and thanked TMO officials.
