Latvian basketball player Jānis Timma scored 11 points on Tuesday in Germany in the defeat against Istanbul “Darussafaka” in the third play-in match of the FIBA Champions League, as the Turkish club withdrew from the fight for the trophy.
“Darussafaka” lost 73:99 (21:29, 17:19, 18:29, 17:22) to “MHP Riesen” from Ludwigsburg, losing 1-2 in the series down to two wins. In 18 minutes and 36 seconds, Timma made three of seven long-range shots and the only two-point shot. He also has four rebounds, two assists, two points, four turnovers, one steal, a +/- of +1 and an efficiency rating of 10.
Muhamad Ali Abdurrahman, who collected 13 points, and Josh Carlton, who collected 12 points and nine rebounds, scored more points than Timma for the Turkish club, while the American basketball player Brendan Adams, who spent the first half of the season at VEF Riga, he scored nine points.
Javon Graves scored 21 points and eight assists for the hosts, Silas Manson scored 18 points and Jeff Roberson and Jorman Polas each scored 13 points. The winners of the eight groups advance to the round of 16, while the winners of second and third place compete for the round of 16 in play-in matches. The teams that have celebrated two victories in the series advance to the round of 16.
ULEB Eurocup
On Tuesday, Latvian basketball player Andrejs Gražulis scored 15 points in the home victory of his Trento “Dolomiti Energia” against Wroclaw “Šlask” represented by Oskar Hlebovicks in the 15th round of the ULEB Eurocup. “Dolomiti Energia” won with 85:79 (20:20, 18:23, 27:16, 20:20).
Gražulis made all five two-point shots and both free throws, as well as one of six long-range shots, in 25 minutes and six seconds for the home team. He also had four rebounds, three fouls, three blocks, five fouls, one foul and finished with an efficiency rating of 10 points.
Hlebowicki was not included in the Polish team’s application. Only Kamar Baldwin scored more than eight points for the hosts, standing out with 26 points scored, 11 assists and six fouls drawn. Dušans Miletić was the visitors’ top scorer with 17 points and five rebounds.
In group B, after 14 matches, “U-Banca Transilvania” of Cluj-Napoca, represented by Marek Meyer, is third with ten victories, “Dolomiti Energia” is in fifth place with seven wins in 15 matches, ‘”Aris” from Thessaloniki, represented by Robert Blumberg, is sixth with a record of 6-8, but Wroclaw “Ślask” with two victories in 15 games is last in the ten-team competition.
This season, the Eurocup playoffs have been changed. The six best teams from each subgroup will enter the play-offs. The first and second placed teams will immediately secure a place in the quarter-finals, while the other teams will play the round of 16 first. Only one match will be played in the round of 16 and the quarter-finals in pairs, while the semi-final and final series will be played up to three wins for one team. Last season the winner of the Eurocup was the Spanish team “Gran Canaria”, which chose not to play in the Euroleague for financial reasons.
