Tilburg cancels seven o’clock fireworks displays due to strong gusts of wind

There will be no fireworks display in Tilburg at seven. New Year’s Eve shows were planned in two places in the city: at Piushaven and at Reeshofpark. Since strong gusts of wind are expected, according to a municipality spokesperson it is irresponsible to allow the shows to take place. The risk of the rockets ending up among the public is too great.

The municipality of Tilburg will decide at half past eight whether the two midnight shows will continue. It also depends on the weather. The municipality says it is not legally permitted to hold fireworks displays in this wind. If the show is canceled at midnight, the fireworks will be fired at 7pm on January 1st.

“It’s disappointing to have to make this decision again, but safety is the most important thing to us,” Mayor Theo Weterings said. “The risks to visitors and those involved are too great to allow the shows to take place.”

Canceled for the fourth time
This is the fourth time the fireworks displays have been cancelled. This year there will also be an exhibition during the Tilburg Fair. There too he threw a spanner in the works. Last year it was also like this on New Year’s Eve and the year before, in 2021, there were no shows due to the coronavirus.

The fireworks displays in Tilburg are intended as an alternative because private individuals in the municipality are not allowed to shoot off fireworks. This ban also applies to Eindhoven.

Eindhoven
The municipality of Eindhoven, together with the organization of the New Year’s festival EHV, monitors the weather forecast 24/7 every hour and sees no reason to cancel the fireworks display for now, a spokesperson said. Furthermore, a large part of the program consists of a light show and artists will perform. So, even if the weather doesn’t allow fireworks, there are still many reasons to come to the square.

If the fireworks display is cancelled, this will be communicated via social media, a spokesperson said. “But we don’t take it for granted.”

The Efteling
Efteling also sees no reason not to cancel tonight’s show on Sunday afternoon: “We are keeping an eye on the weather and are in close contact with the weather stations, but for now it looks like we can continue the show safely.” “
