Based on these findings, the app not only seeks to expand its repertoire of multimedia content, but also offer its users the possibility of automatically synchronizing photos uploaded to the social network with this new platform. Even though TikTok’s headquarters are not located in China, many US lawmakers doubt its independence from Beijing. The bill approved Wednesday in the House of Representatives seeks to put pressure on the Chinese app to disassociate itself from ByteDance. The app is already banned on the work phones of government employees in the United States and other nations, such as Australia and Canada, due to security concerns.
Although they assure that there is no risk to the data of American users, the CEO of TikTok insists that the Chinese government has never requested such data or provided it. Additionally, TikTok claims that it directs all of its traffic in the United States through infrastructure located in that country. If this law is approved, the company plans to take the case to court, according to Bloomberg.
