Three priorities and two orders – Mitsotakis instructions

For an hour and a half the Prime Minister and his ministers were discussing the accuracy on the supermarket shelves in Maximos, with the assessment that they will begin to “gradually” register a positive image in the price crash test. There has already been an attempt to cultivate a more optimistic image and a message for a lower initial price list in at least 1,500 codes. If the expectations are confirmed, it is assumed that the government will communicate with examples the change of landscape in important products – detergents, baby products, etc. – with possible, according to information, the “return” of Mitsotakis to supermarkets for evaluation once the reduced prices have passed on the shelf.

Accuracy remains consistently at the top of the list of citizens’ spontaneous responses to pollsters’ question of the biggest problems, while the government receives an additional signal of distrust for its handling. Indicatively, almost two out of three answer (MRB/Open) that fewer measures have been taken than the state of the economy allows. However, Mitsotakis restated two orders to the ministers. First, to throw forces where the degree of government efficiency is judged up to the levels of trust in society, that is, in everyday life. Second, not to simply celebrate the passing of any initiative but to continue “implementation work” until there is a practical result of government policy. “Here we are discussing strategic directions…”, he said, “reforms are not an abstract concept, they are a tangible intervention.”

In this context, he defined three four-year priorities, not only in the legislative field but “in the implementation of our work”: economy, health, security inside and outside the borders. For the first area, he insisted that apart from targeted emergency measures against “chronic distortions” in the way the market works, the “most effective response” to the precision, which continues to hit family budgets, comes from permanent income support interventions.

Hence he referred to the next Ministerial meeting, in the last ten days of March. Then the final decision on the minimum wage is expected, which will be implemented on April 1 and, as it has been announced, will move above 800 euros. With regard to health, which is also recorded by polls as a focus of concern for citizens, Mitsotakis insisted that the afternoon surgeries are an “important” intervention, while for defense he pointed to the coordination of the armed forces with the “demands of the times” . Among other things, a Joint Informatics Corps with a dedicated cybersecurity directorate is in the works.

“Let’s see”, he noted, “what more and how quickly we can move” on compensations and restorations in Thessaly, pending the presentation of the Dutch study in the next 24 hours, before the March 11 meeting in Larissa. The Agricultural Department opened at the Ministerial Office (and) with… pre-election signs. “19 Greek improvement proposals have been submitted to Brussels,” said Mitsotakis about the Common Agricultural Policy. And with an eye on the Euro-election, he gave a “line” to highlight the efforts of the EPP with the ND in front on the restructuring issues of the CAP. To think, as he noted, the farmers and breeders “who are the ones who the next day will be able to fight for their just demands”.

In dealing with “Hellenization”, new levels were agreed for controls on oil, honey and fruit and vegetables, while he reiterated the commitment to a permanent mechanism for the return of the tax on agricultural oil from 2025. The government clearly prefers actions that will not have budgetary costs but will respond to producer claims. Especially for Thessaly, today there is a meeting of the co-authors in the Ministry of Rural Development, while a recent gallop (GPO/Larissapress) has captured the anxieties in the region: in addition to the accuracy, there are problems with the restoration of the damages (the percentages are skyrocketing in prefectures, such as Karditsa) and the issues of the primary sector.
