He said, 3 out of every 5 victims are women. One in every 2,300 children is born with a thyroid problem. But 60 percent of the victims are out of treatment.
This information was given by the expert doctor at the opening ceremony of the three-day thyroid fair which started from Wednesday (May 29) at Subast Ittehad Square Thyroid Center in Dhanmondi on the occasion of World Thyroid Day-2024. The fair is jointly organized by The Thyroid Center and Bitmir. The fair will continue till Friday.
Dr. AKM Fazlul Bari said that thyroid disease is hereditary. Especially if grandmother, grandmother or mother have thyroid problem, there is a 70 percent chance of having thyroid problem in children and relatives. Of this 70 percent, only 8 percent do not know that they already have thyroid disease. These patients need to be made aware. Because the silent killer thyroid is causing their physical problems.
Thyroid Center is working tirelessly to provide affordable treatment to thyroid patients and create awareness about thyroid disease among common people. Professor Fazlul Bari also said that thyroid fair is being organized since 2017 on this occasion.
Highlighting the services of the fair, he said, low-cost medical treatment for thyroid patients and low-cost treatment for those who are likely to develop thyroid and free medical services for children under one year of age. Thyroid consultant or professor services can be availed at Thyroid Fair for just 300 taka per visit. Apart from this, thyroid checkup (blood, ultrasonogram and blood grouping) is being done at the fair for Tk 3000 and free thyroid checkup is being done for children under one year of age. Apart from this, all types of thyroid patients are treated. One stop service is available. As a result, all services from surgery to patient admission are provided at the thyroid center.
