The Boeny region is preparing to host three ambitious environmental projects, prepared by a joint mission from FAO and focal points from the ministries concerned.
This mission, bringing together the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, as well as the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, took place recently with the aim of prepare the ground for these initiatives. The first project, named AFR100, focuses on forestry and agricultural producers. Its aim is to restore degraded forest landscapes and improve the livelihoods of local communities by integrating them into sustainable agricultural practices and forest management. The second project, FVC-Biodiversity, aims to integrate biodiversity into agricultural sectors. This initiative is part of the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, seeking to harmonize agricultural practices with the imperatives of biodiversity conservation. Finally, the third project, ACP MEAs 3, focuses on capacity building on multilateral environmental agreements in ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) countries. This project is essential to support ACP countries in the effective implementation of environmental agreements and to promote sustainable environmental management.
Preparations
According to the promoters of these projects, last week’s joint mission enabled several significant advances. In particular, it made it possible to pre-identify the areas of intervention, to guide the activities to be implemented on the ground and to identify potential partners and projects in the region. In addition, this mission facilitated the understanding of the approaches, areas of intervention and beneficiaries of existing projects, thus promoting synergies and complementarities in the sectors of agriculture, livestock, fishing/aquaculture and of forestry. These three projects promise to strengthen the environmental resilience of the Boeny region, while improving the living conditions of local communities and promoting sustainable practices in the region’s main economic sectors. The ongoing preparations bode well for the successful launch of these crucial initiatives for the future of the region.
