Three dead in a bush taxi accident

The tragic end of the bush taxi.

A tragedy struck the RN4 24 km before Ambondromemy, Thursday early in the morning, when three people were struck by an accident involving a bush taxi. Around 4 a.m., a bush taxi, speeding along a straight line, lost control, veered off the road, and violently crashed into a tree. Three individuals lost their lives in the impact, while several others were injured and rushed to the nearest hospital. Law enforcement and the local community mobilized to help the victims. The gendarmerie, after an initial investigation, points to the driver’s lack of sleep as the probable cause of the accident. The driver had broken the rules by making a round trip without taking a break, a practice strictly prohibited by the authorities. Faced with this tragedy, the gendarmerie is calling for the vigilance of motorists and announcing severe penalties for traffic violators. She points out that accidents can result from technical problems, such as worn tires or non-compliant brakes, but also from the reckless behavior of drivers. Fatigue, lack of sleep, speeding, drunkenness and loss of concentration while driving are all risk factors. The gendarmerie also highlights the degraded state of certain sections of roads, calling for particular attention and improvements to strengthen road safety.
