The Cuban nominees

José Canseco was born in Havana and grew up in Miami. He added 462 home runs, drove in 1,407 runs and stole 200 bases in MLB, becoming the first Major League player to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases (42-40) in a season.

He won Rookie of the Year in 1986 and Most Valuable Player in 1988.

Rafael Palmeiro, for his part, was also born in Havana and grew up in the United States. He is in the elite group of six hitters with 500 home runs and 3,000 hits.

His name should be in the Hall of Fame, but his statements in the United States Congress and his positive test for steroids remain in the minds of journalists, becoming a difficult barrier to break to reach Cooperstown.

Pitcher Liván Hernández recorded 177 victories in the Major Leagues, leading the Majors three times in innings pitched, twice in starts and two other times in complete games.
