Thom Haye is curious about the GBK atmosphere

JAKARTA – Indonesian National team will face Iraq at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) on Thursday (6/6/2024). Indonesian National Team midfielder, Thom Haye, can’t wait to feel the great enthusiasm of the supporters who are present directly at the stadium.

The Indonesian national team will face Iraq in the second round of Group F 2026 World Cup Qualification Asia Zone . After that, the Garuda Squad will face the Philippines at the same location, namely SUGBK.

Thom Haye is very enthusiastic about the match at SUGBK. Even though he had previously experienced the atmosphere of the stadium when he was a spectator at the match against Vietnam, at that time the process of transferring his federation had not been completed so he could not play.

Now, he has a great opportunity to make his debut at SUGBK. Thom Haye hopes that Indonesian National Team supporters will provide extraordinary support against Iraq.

“In the last match against Vietnam at GBK, I couldn’t play yet,” said Thom Haye to journalists including MNC Portal Indonesia on Tuesday (28/5/2024). “But I felt a great atmosphere in the stadium. “I hope there will be the same great support in the next two matches,” he continued.

Thom Haye has undergone his first training with the Indonesian National Team at Field B, Senayan, Tuesday (28/5/2024). The player, who is currently without a club, is adapting to the weather in Indonesia, which is very different from Europe.

“It’s different from what I usually feel. I’ve been here several times so I’m starting to get used to it. Therefore, coming earlier would be better,” said Thom Haye.

These two further Group F matches are very crucial for the Garuda Squad because they will determine their fate in the next round. The Indonesian national team has a great opportunity to advance to the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications as well as automatically qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup. Shin Tae-yong’s troops only need one win in the matches against Iraq and the Philippines.
