Myths About Death with Scientific Facts. PHOTO/DAILY
Death is a natural part of life, but much of it is shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding.
As reported by IFL Science, here are some common myths about what happens to our bodies after death, along with the scientific facts:
Myth 1: Hair and nails continue to grow after death.
Fact: Hair and nails are made of dead tissue that has no living cells to develop. The visible growth is simply because the surrounding skin is shrinking, making hair and nails appear longer.
Myth 2: We always die with our eyes open.
Fact: The eyelid muscles relax after death, so most of the eye is closed. However, in some cases, the eyes may remain partially open.
Myth 3: The body always stops moving after death.
Fact: Sometimes, corpses can experience reflexinvoluntary movements, jerking, or even sit up some time after death. This is caused by the release of gas and residual muscle activity.
