Evenepoel carried out these explorations in secret, which is why his Strava profile remained noticeably silent between December 27 and 30. Those days he was traveling in France together with teammate Louis Vervaeke, team leader Klaas Lodewyck, mechanic Nicolas Coosemans and caretaker David Geeroms. A cycling enthusiast spotted Evenepoel on the gravel strips of the Tours route and posted the above images on “X”.
Dario Kloeck was also present in France. Kloeck is Evenepoel’s cousin and good friend. In recent years he has worked as a bicycle repairer in Aartselaar, but as of this year he is also on the payroll of Soudal Quick-Step as a mechanic.
Evenepoel and colleagues explored the seventh, eighth, and ninth stages. Stage seven is the time trial in the heart of Burgundy, stage eight is a transition stage and stage nine is the dirt stage in and around Troyes. Since Soudal Quick-Step has not yet officially announced that Evenepoel will race the Tour, he does not want to comment on the results of the explorations.
Evenepoel returned to training in Calpe, Spain. On Monday 8 January he will join his teammates for the second team training period in view of the road season. On February 14, Evenepoel will kick off his road season with the Tour of the Algarve.
I WAIT. Is this a Tour course for Remco Evenepoel?
