Although most car manufacturers recommend the right rear seat, i.e. behind the driver’s seat, as the safest, a study revealed that it is not the place where we are least likely to be injured in an accident.
Almost half of road accidents are frontal collisions. It is therefore no coincidence that the safest seat is located in the back row of seats, since the people sitting in the back are simply further away from the collision site, the so-called crumple zone is longer.
Most car manufacturers recommend that children, of course, have a safety device appropriate for their size in a child seat, definitely in the back seat row travel so that they are least likely to be injured in the event of a collision.

The safest seat is not the left rear
For a long time, the view held that the seat behind the driver was not only the one already mentioned due to the crease zone, it is the safest, but also because in a dangerous situation the leader instinctively protects his own side. However, according to a recent study there is an even safer place at the left rear also in the car.
Published in Pubmed, car seat safety study examined car accidents in the United States between 2000 and 2003 in terms of passenger survival rates. Seat positions, impact point, overturning, and the safety system were among the observed factors.
During the analysis they came to the conclusion that the rear center seat of cars has proven to be the safest.
At this session, significantly fewer accidents turned out to be fatal than at any other. As it turns out, already rear seat passengers were 29 percent more likely to survive a traffic accidentthan those occupying the first two seats, and even in comparison, the chance of survival was 13 percent higher in the middle than in either the right or left rear seats.

The front seats have also become safe
In recent years, almost everything such safety improvements were made at a large car manufacturer, which specifically affect front passengers. Since the manufacturers wanted to make the front seats, which were considered more dangerous, safer, several improvements were directed to the two front seats, and the safety of those traveling on them. One of them is the so-called load limiter, which is included in the seat belt retractor in cars. The load limiter allows the seat belt to loosen slightly during a collision, if the passenger presses the belt with such force that the would cause injury in itself.
“That’s why experts recommend – in the case of newer cars that already have a load limiter in the front – that the over 55 age group with more fragile bones should take a seat in the front seat. At the same time, experts agree that the back seat is still the safest for children under the age of 13.”

The most dangerous is still the right front seat
Totalcar summarized the accident statistics. As it turned out from the data they collected, the mother-in-law seat, i.e. the right front seat, is where the risk of serious injury is most likely, nearly 70 percent of travelers here are injuredwhile the injury statistics for those occupying the driver’s seat during a collision is only 10 percent.
