MEXICO CITY (apro).- The platform conglomerate known as Meta has integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into a feature available to its users of the WhatsApp messaging application.
The feature called “Meta AI” is an optional service that provides generative AI technology, meaning it can generate original content from existing information, such as text or images.
These are the features of “Meta AI” in WhatsApp:
- Have conversations with AI and other characters
- Using AI in existing group chats
- Ask questions and get helpful recommendations
- Talking about shared interests
- Interact with your content
- Create AI-generated images in chats
According to WhatsApp, personal messages and calls will remain end-to-end encrypted, meaning that not even WhatsApp or Meta can see or listen to them. In group chats, “Meta AI” can only read messages that mention “@Meta AI,” but no others.
As part of the security that the company claims to offer its users, Meta allows the option to delete individual chats; request the deletion of information that has been shared with the function; neither Meta nor WhatsApp can incorporate “Meta AI” in a personal chat and next to the names of Meta AIs the verified account badge appears.
WhatsApp warned that some AI-generated messages “may not be accurate or appropriate.”
For now, Meta AI is only available in a limited number of countries, so not all app users can make use of this feature, and it is only available in English at the moment.
