Quebecer Wilkens Mathieu (5-0-0, 3 KOs) is only 19 years old, but his name is already starting to circulate in the upper echelons of international boxing.
He will face Jose Arias Alvarez (3-1-0, 1 KO) on Saturday night for his sixth professional fight, at the Videotron Center in Quebec.
“He’s a guy who has a great chin,” Mathieu first mentioned in an interview with JiC on Tuesday. I’ll have to put my hands together in combination because the shots that hurt the most are the ones you don’t see coming. This is how he will fall.
This will be the first of three fights in just three months for Mathieu as he will also fight on January 25th at the Montreal Casino and on March 7th.
“I want to be active,” he admitted. I’ve had five fights in 2023 and I want to do even more in 2024. It’s a bit like the formula with Mike Tyson back in the day… he fought 15 times in 12 months. It’s kind of the same formula we follow.”
