Labor migrants from India come to Armenia mostly from poor states. Because they do not know the language, they often find work in the construction and service sectors.
Publika.az informs that this is stated in the investigation of “Suputnik Armenia”. Migrants from India earn an average of 10,000 drams per day (about $25) or 250,000 drams (about $625) per month in construction. However, given the exorbitant cost of renting an apartment, this money is not always enough.
Indians usually live in groups of 8-10 people, in garages and old houses with minimal facilities and no heating. They pay 800-1000 dollars per month for such living conditions.
According to Indian labor migrant Sandeep Singh, it is not easy to find a job in Armenia. He has not been able to find a job for six months, but he plans to open his own business here and later bring his family to Armenia.
When asked if things are better in Armenia than in his homeland, Singh’s brother answers in the affirmative. He explains that it is quieter here, the people are nicer, the climate is milder.
The brothers and seven other compatriots rented an apartment for 300,000 drams (about $800) a month. They barely make ends meet.
A group of 10 Indians who rented a garage in one of Yerevan’s districts complained that they had not been paid for two months.
“Tomorrow our friend is leaving home, he has two small children, but he has not received money for two months,” said a migrant from India named Simar.
They work in construction for 200 thousand drams per month. Simar admitted that now his parents send him money.
