Thirty national and international companies bring to life a new version of the Temporales de Teatro – 2024-07-11 08:25:24 – 2024-07-11 08:28:33

Organized by the Puerto Montt Cultural Corporation, the thirty-fifth International Temporary Theater Festival began on July 5 and will run until the 27th of this month with extensions in seven venues in the commune.

For the president of the Board of Directors of the Cultural Corporation of Puerto Montt, Gervoy Paredes Rojas, “it is also important to talk about the future challenges of the festival. This will be the last year that this municipal administration will have the possibility of directly contributing financial resources for the realization of the Theatrical Temporals.”

“However, we must urge future administrations to follow the line that the Municipality has followed with this event, because we want to see it grow, increase its international presence, add more training offers, and ensure that this space serves as a space for more local companies to show their work and thereby contribute to regional, national and international itinerary,” he added.

Along the same lines, the executive director of the Puerto Montt Cultural Corporation, Marcelo Utreras, said that this was a special challenge, since it not only has a commemorative aspect, but also the epic nature of having been built with efforts that had many difficulties to materialize.

“It is no mystery to anyone that the budgets for culture have not been characterized by increases. The budget for this version (…), is similar to the one we had six or seven years ago, in a pre-pandemic context, and in recent years we have all witnessed the rise in the cost of energy, tickets, and prices in general and we continue to have the same budget, that is why the mayor pointed out the future challenges and needs that the festival will have to face,” he emphasized.

Training line

Catalina Saavedra, actress and spokesperson for Territorio Teatral – who for some years have led the school for spectators in the commune, in addition to the training part of the festival – said: “in the school for spectators, certain concepts are delivered that then allow the public to see plays with a knowledge that allows them to better unravel the discourses of content and aesthetics.”

“It is a job that we have been doing for four or five years, the same time in which we have been doing training work in temporary venues (,…), something very necessary for the exercise of creation since we do not have formal spaces that allow us to constantly feed the scene, and we must say that the Los Lagos Region is the second or third with the greatest theatrical activity in the country, something that makes us proud,” he concluded.

Finally, with 23 performances at the Diego Rivera Theater and 15 in different extension venues, the performing arts event will be held. This year it is being held with contributions from the Municipality of Puerto Montt and the Regional Government of Los Lagos; an investment of a little over $180 million pesos, of which 83% was contributed by the local municipal office and the rest by Gore Los Lagos.
