REVELATION OF BUDI SANTOSO – A new study based on computer modeling suggests that carbon on the planet Mercury may have been compressed into a diamond layer several kilometers thick beneath the planet’s crust.
This research, led by Dr. Yongjiang Xu of the China Advanced Research Center for High Pressure Science and Technology, suggests that the extreme pressure and heat on Mercury during its early formation could have transformed carbon into solid, diamond-like carbon.

As reported by IFL Science, this finding is astonishing and has significant implications for our understanding of Mercury and other rocky planets in our solar system.

The MESSENGER spacecraft has revealed that Mercury has a much higher carbon content than Earth. This carbon is mostly found in the form of graphite, which is a common form of carbon.
