The Government of Cesar, through the Ministry of Health, reported a reduction in mortality from dengue. So far this year, 2,972 cases of dengue have been reported, of which 43.6% correspond to dengue without warning signs, 54.6% to dengue with warning signs and only 1.8% to severe dengue, figures that represent a 1% decrease in dengue cases compared to 2024, when 2,956 cases were reported in the same period.
In total, 15 municipalities in the department have significantly reduced the number of cases, including Valledupar, Bosconia, Becerril, Curumaní, Chiriguaná, La Jagua de Ibirico, Pueblo Bello and Chimichagua.
These results reflect the impact of the sustained health promotion, epidemiological surveillance and risk management actions carried out by the Government of Cesar in all municipalities.
Among the strategies implemented, permanent entomological monitoring stands out, which consists of observing, capturing and analyzing mosquitoes, in this case, Aedes aegypti, transmitter of dengue, Zika and chikungunya, to know:
- Where and in what quantity mosquitoes are present in an area.
- How they behave (if they are reproducing faster, if there are more larvae or adults).
- How sensitive they are to the insecticides used in fumigations.
- In which places there is a greater risk of disease transmission.
With this information, the health team of the Government of Cesar directs control actions, such as targeted fumigations, the elimination of breeding sites, educational campaigns and the strengthening of timely medical care in healthcare centers.
“This result is the result of the coordinated work between the Departmental Health Secretariat, the municipalities and the communities. Thanks to the cleaning days, the school campaigns and the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance, we have managed to contain the outbreak and reduce the lethality of dengue in our territory,” highlighted the Secretary of Health of Cesar, Georgina Sánchez.
The municipalities that are currently in the alarm zone—among them Río de Oro, Valledupar, La Paz and El Paso—continue to be permanently monitored by the public health surveillance team.
“The Government of Cesar calls on all citizens to maintain preventive measures in homes such as eliminating, cleaning or covering containers that can accumulate stagnant water, such as tires, vases, animal waterers and tanks; frequently changing the water in vases and brushing their walls; keeping patios and outdoor areas clean, as well as refilling disused septic tanks. In the same way, the use of clothing that covers most of the surface is recommended. body, apply mosquito repellent on exposed skin and use mosquito nets or bed curtains to avoid bites while sleeping,” said Health Secretary Georgina Sánchez.
