They promote efficient and responsible use of water

With the aim of promoting the efficient and responsible use of water, the Sapal Water Culture Department held an awareness day last Friday at the Lerdo Forest Nursery, known as Las Auras Park.

The event focused on highlighting the relevance of adequate management of water resources in homes, emphasizing that of the total water that reaches homes, approximately 70 percent is used in activities related to bathing, such as flushing toilets and showers.

Among the tools presented to reduce this excessive consumption, water-saving shower heads were mentioned: these devices work by restricting the flow of water, allowing adequate pressure to be maintained for showering, but using less water in the process.

A typical water-saving shower can reduce water consumption by up to 50 percent, which is equivalent to about 10 liters of water per minute of use, compared to conventional showers.

Another strategy promoted during the session was the use of the “Shower in 5 minutes” hourglass: this simple device serves the purpose of reminding users of the time they have spent in the shower, thus promoting shorter and more efficient showers. With this, it is estimated that a family can save up to 2 thousand liters of water per month, simply by reducing the time spent bathing.

In addition to these measures, families were encouraged to use PET bottles filled with sand in toilet tanks, thus reducing the amount of water needed for each flush.

This practice, although simple, can mean significant savings over time, contributing to the sustainable use of the resource.

At the event, the importance of timely payment of water bills was emphasized. It was explained that this payment not only covers the water service itself, but also the costs associated with the extraction, conveyance and treatment of water, as well as the management of wastewater, fundamental aspects to guarantee a safe and reliable water supply for the whole community.

In addition to promoting environmental conservation, these actions also reflect the commitment of the Lerdo Water Culture Department to society, by offering the tools and knowledge that contribute to a more sustainable and conscious future.
