GUANAJUATO, Gto., (apro).- Between the early hours of Sunday and early Monday morning, two municipal police officers of Celaya were murdered and six wounded in three armed attacks that occurred in different parts of that city, where the municipal corporation is a victim of a persecution that has already claimed the lives of 14 agents in less than four months of 2024.
The first attack was committed on Sunday morning against auxiliary police officer Édgar Herrera Cornejo, when he was attending to a barbecue business he owned in the Villa de los Arcos neighborhood, where he usually carried out his surveillance activities.
The agent was on his day off, so he was selling barbecue, when two men on a motorcycle arrived at the scene and shot him, leaving him dead.
An employee suffered an injury from a bullet wound.
On the night of the same Sunday, another member of the Municipal Police was the victim of an armed attack where he died, while he was having dinner at a taco stand.
This happened on a street in the Gobernadores neighborhood, around midnight.
The agent was inside the “El Charco” taqueria when, similar to what happened to his partner in the morning, armed men entered and shot him directly, and then fled.
Already in the early hours of Monday, a group of police officers who were patrolling in the Villas del Romeral neighborhood were attacked by armed civilians.
The Celaya Security Secretariat confirmed the attack and indicated that several people from a criminal cell, as well as weapons and vehicles, were arrested after the attack.
The police officers assigned to the Special Operations Group (GOEC) of the Municipal Police were patrolling between Villas del Pedregal and Villa de Juárez streets, together with elements of the National Guard and the military when the attack was recorded, according to the statement from the Ministry of Celayense security.
Although the number of injured officers was not officially specified, it was known that there were six police officers who were taken to receive medical attention for injuries caused by gunshots.
In total, nine civilians were arrested and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.
