The salaries of all those working in the capital’s metro will be increased by BGN 248, KNSB announced.

On Wednesday, a compromise agreement was signed to increase the remuneration of workers and employees in the capital “Metropolitan”. However, this increase does not apply to drivers. Their wages will be differentially increased to reduce the wage gap, the union said.

On March 15, the Federation of Transport Trade Unions organized a protest and workers in the Sofia metro briefly blocked one of the entrances to the Serdika metro station. Their dissatisfaction was due to concerns that the agreement with the capital’s mayor, Vasil Terziev, would not be fulfilled for those working in the subway.

At the end of February, the Metropolitan Municipality announced that it was increasing the salaries of those working in public transport by 15% from March 1, 2024, after an agreement was signed with the transport companies.

In addition to the increase in wages, the agreement also includes measures aimed at improving the quality of public transport, ensuring a more attractive service for citizens, improving the working environment of employed employees, and supporting the provision of new means of transport and their provision with spare parts.

At the end of 2023, public transport employees in Sofia and other cities in the country asked for a 30% salary increase. After numerous appeals and protests at the beginning of January, the capital’s mayor Vasil Terziev proposed a 15% increase for all public transport employees in Sofia.
