There was a tribute to the communist leader on the 19th anniversary of her death. This Sunday, March 3, in the General Cemetery, a posthumous tribute was held a few days after the 19th anniversary of the death of Gladys Marín Millie (died on March 6, 2005), historical communist militant, who was general secretary of the Communist Youth and general secretary and president of the Communist Party, deputy in two terms and president of the Federation of Normalista Students.

The activity had special relevance in the midst of a strong anti-communist riot unleashed by sectors of the right and extreme right, highlighting the brave attitude and constant rebellion in the face of adversity and injustice that Gladys Marín maintained, always denouncing, throughout her life, the atrocities committed against the people of Chile, the people of the world and the Communist Party.

At the event there were political and artistic expressions, highlighting the communist leader’s commitment to struggle and activism. There were diplomatic representations from Venezuela, Syria, Nicaragua and Cuba. In addition to parliamentarians, municipal authorities, social and political leaders, leaders of the PC and the JJCC, among whom were the president of the community, Lautaro Carmona, the general secretary, Bárbara Figueroa, and the president of the JJCC, deputy Daniela Serrano.

The councilor of Recoleta and communist candidate for the election of mayor of that commune, Fares Jadue Leiva, was in charge of opening the ceremony. He indicated that “19 years after her departure, Gladys Marín Millie continues to live in the memory of the Chilean people. “Her tireless fight for freedom, social justice, equality and the defense of human rights made her a leader for the entire Chilean and Latin American left.”

Lautaro Carmona in his speech included Gladys’ main contributions to the workers’ struggle, highlighting her anti-imperialist character, her cultural reach and impact, deeply rooted in the left, and her astonishing consequences. Carmona called to reaffirm the commitments made by Gladys Marín and keep her example alive.

“We came here 19 years ago, not only to pay tribute to a great person, to a person who took on life with the full intensity of his thoughts and values. We came this far with the conviction that this tribute can be nothing other than reaffirming the commitments to the values ​​and flags that Gladys committed to,” said the PC helmsman.

Lautaro Carmona declared that “we do this commemoration in a context, in the year in which we are going to hold the Twenty-Seventh National Congress of our Party (…) this Congress is going to be marked by positions, by global political values, by individual conduct and personal in the face of the struggle, (which) is part of the legacy that Gladys leaves us. We also (make) this tribute a few days before the third year of our Government begins, the Government headed by President Gabriel Boric, which is the second half of the period, where the demands on the active leader and militant of the forces that this Government maintains will be put to the test because it will be directly linked to the message with which we reach our people, to the concrete action and transformation policies that we are capable of implementing, and the legitimate right to perspective the fight for the future Government , in continuity with today’s transformations.”

Likewise, the president of the hammer and sickle community made a comparison of the past and present, in the midst of a strong anti-communist campaign, which “seeks to displace the Government Party, and generate rejection by citizens despite the strong political and social roots” of the leftist community.

Carmona indicated: “On that level it is as if no time had passed, the battle that he claims with the utmost determination, with a value even of pride in the correct sense of the word to address and confront the anti-communist campaign, which is part of Gladys’s fight to defend the existence of the Communist Party, which is part of Gladys’s fight against the dictatorship, is part of Gladys’s fight for the existence of the Communist Party regarding the collapse of real socialisms, is part of the fight for the defense, existence and projection of this political force in moments of exclusion that national politics has experienced, and it will be that rebellion, that relationship of political position and wisdom, to address where it needs to be addressed, the validity of these ideas.” .

The communist leader assumed a position of denunciation of the political exploitation of the right, to try to attack the revolutionary process in Venezuela, due to the kidnapping of the former military man, Ronald Ojeda, who was found dead after his kidnapping. Carmona assured that the right seeks to sever diplomatic relations between two States that are precisely rebuilding their relations, and took the opportunity to greet and fraternize with the Venezuelan ambassador, Arévalo Méndez, present at the activity.

Likewise, she once again condemned the genocide committed by the State of Israel against the Palestinian people, making a comparison with the anti-imperialist vocation with which Gladys protested against the invasion of Iraq, perpetrated by the United States. “We denounce, once again, what is the genocide against the Palestinian people, there will be no shortage of initiatives, creativity is open, with a humanistic sense, with a sense of solidarity, with a sense with perspective, so that each core of the PC, related within the framework of the mass movement, coordinated with other groups from other parties, do not stop one day from raising flags of solidarity with the Palestinian people who are experiencing the criminal and genocidal siege of the State of Israel.”
