They capture a key distributor of the “Rotela Clan” in Asunción

ASSUMPTION. In a joint operation between the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD) and the Public Ministry, the capture of a key person in the drug distribution network of the “Rotela Clan” in Asunción was achieved. Carlos Alberto Duarte Aguilera, 45, was arrested in the Roberto L. Pettit neighborhood of the Paraguayan capital, in possession of almost 1 kilogram of cocaine hydrochloride.

Francisco Ayala, communications director of SENAD, pointed out that this subject, who had been released from prison just 8 months ago, represents an important link in the large-scale drug distribution chain.

“This person is already at the disposal of the Public Ministry,” declared Ayala, in an interview with the radio station 650 AM. He highlighted that Duarte Aguilera was not a common drug trafficker, but rather operated at higher levels of the “Rotela Clan” distribution chain.

“The white pressed package, and once distributed at points of sale, we are talking about approximately 2 thousand doses,” Ayala said.

The Senad communications director remarked that “this is the link that is above the small drug dealing centers, it is not the one that sells hand to hand, let’s say to consumers.”

The operation is part of an energetic offensive against micro-trafficking and drug dealing in general, which abound in the neighborhoods of Asunción. The authorities intensified their efforts to dismantle these criminal networks and prevent the drugs from reaching the hands of end consumers.
