They call in Cesar in support of former president Uribe

Leaders of the Democratic Center Party in the Department of Cesar announced a mobilization scheduled for next August 7, in support of former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez, who was recently sentenced to 12 years in house prison by a judicial court.

The call, which is part of a national day promoted by supporters of the ex -president, has begun to gain strength in several municipalities of the country, especially in regions where Uribe has traditionally had broad electoral support.

In Valledupar and other localities of Cesar, there have already been installed parades and advertising pieces in support of the political leader. According to Carlos Adolfo Morón, spokesman of the Democratic Center in this department, the demonstration seeks to express the discontent of citizens to what they describe as a “unfair and biased” judicial decision.

“From today, public parades and samples are being installed in support of the innocence of President Uribe. This is a protest against that judicial decision that, in our opinion, was not impartial,” Morón said in statements to Cacica News.

The leader said that, in the opinion of the movement, the judicial process against Uribe has been plagued with irregularities, noting that the evidence used would have been obtained illegally.

In addition, he questioned Judge Sandra Heredia, in charge of the ruling, ensuring that the trial has a political background. “This is a purely political trial. The whole country has followed and many citizens recognize that this has been an abuse of the Judiciary,” he said.

The protest day of August 7 coincides with the commemoration of the day of the battle of Boyacá, a date of strong national symbolism. Morón said it will be a peaceful and respectful demonstration of public order, and anticipated high participation in rural and urban sectors.

“That day will become the first electoral thermometer. This conviction will give oxygen to those who believe in a different country and reject judicial persecution as a political tool,” he added.

The leadership of the Democratic Center in Cesar continues to refine logistic details for mobilization, which will also be replicated in other regions of the country such as Antioquia, Santander and Bogotá.
