They ask for more flexibility and better salaries

93 percent of employees around the world say they have been influenced by Gen Z colleagues when it comes to work-life boundaries and openness to new technologies, a ManpowerGroup assessment reveals.

By 2030, Generation Z will make up 58% of the workforce. While year after year more and more young people join the world of work, their perspective on what they expect from a job raises reflections for the rest of the workers, indicated Fernando Bermúdez, director of Corporate Relations at Manpowergroup.

According to ManpowerGroup’s 2024 Workplace Trends study, Generation Z has a more positive attitude, looking for spaces, willing to catch up with colleagues, more open to learning and establishing contacts to advance and earn more.

The integration of young workers with this vision begins to transform the ideas that older generations had about the labor market. Some of the topics that have had the most influence are: Boundaries between work and private life with 78%; Openness to new technologies 76%; Desire for professional success 76%; Fair remuneration for work 75%; Involvement of businessmen in social issues 71%.

Unlike previous generations, Centennials demand more from their employers. Today more than ever, young workers want to know what position companies take on the issues they are passionate about and have clear expectations regarding their professional and human development.

In terms of career development, 60% of Gen Z employees expect to be offered personalized development, with trained mentors and transparent progression plans tailored to personal goals, the human capital firm reported. Centennials now want to dedicate themselves to organizations committed to their careers, their well-being and aligned with their personal values.

Furthermore, the report detected that Generation Z is the first to demonstrate a strong preference for sustainability and care for the environment; 75% of the members of this generation affirm that sustainability is a topic that becomes relevant in their applications.

It can be seen that Centennials have an active role in society, disruptively allowing other generations to express changes necessary for social and work well-being. It is a generation that presents clear positions on the issues on which they are willing to collaborate and on which they are not.
