In an operation carried out this afternoon, and which was broadcast live on several television channels, members of the Carabineros Special Police Operations Group (GOPE) detained three men in the Antiquina sector, outside a minimarket.
Carabineros has not yet confirmed whether the detainees are directly involved in the events or if their arrests are due to another reason, which will surely be clear once they are interrogated at the Carabineros police station in Cañete. In this regard, the police institution indicated that “different operations are being carried out in the area” and that “the three subjects seen in the images are going to Cañete for an investigative identity check.”
Regardless of this, both the prosecution and the police are now clear that the crime of the non-commissioned officers occurred – as was speculated – about four kilometers from route P72, which connects Cañete and Tirúa, when the police descended from the vehicle in who were mobilizing, in order to review a precautionary measure of night house arrest against an accused.
It was at that moment that the police officers were shot and killed, their bodies being thrown into the pick up of the van they were driving, which was taken to the main route, where the uniformed murderers set them on fire.
Update: Around 9 p.m. tonight it was confirmed that two of those arrested were released, while a third was detained and will be placed under judicial detention control, accused of concealment of identity and mistreatment of Carabineros.
