The general hospital in Pernik and the capital’s “Pirogov” will be inspected for refusing to treat a patient with a severe kidney infection.
The case was first reported by bTV. The man was discharged from “Rahila Angelova” hospital in Pernik, where he was treated after hemorrhaging from an ulcer. From there he was discharged with the conclusion “no medical risk”.
Later, however, it worsened again, and after the personal doctor refused to come to the address, the family went to the largest emergency hospital in our country – “Pirogov”. “We take out the identity card, the woman there looks at it and says: “Oh, but you are from Pernik. You have a hospital there, go there and be treated, why do you come here?”says the patient’s daughter Daniela Raycheva. “I couldn’t believe my ears. My father was pale, he couldn’t speak”she commented.
The man was examined and blood tests were performed. In the outpatient list in the “Therapy” column, they refer him back to the hospital in Pernik.
After “Pirogov” refused, the man was taken to “St. Anna” hospital. There, the doctors found that he had a severe kidney infection and severe dehydration. And after learning about the case, the director of “Pirogov” sent a written apology to the family.
“What are they apologizing to me for – that my father was in a serious condition and on the verge of sepsis? With tears in his eyes, he said: “Danny, please, I want to go home. Take me home, I want to die at home. To see your father in this state, to hear those words – I don’t wish them on anyone.”says the patient’s daughter.
“Pirogov” told bTV that an internal investigation has been ordered into the case. The hospital management is adamant that people have equal rights and cannot be separated on any grounds.
“At Pirogov Hospital, all the most serious, even hopeless emergencies in Sofia and Bulgaria have always received help. Behavior of intolerance is not accepted and will not be tolerated, if any”the hospital also said.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Galya Kondeva, ordered the Executive Agency “Medical Supervision” to carry out an inspection at the two medical facilities – MBAL “Rahila Angelova” in Pernik and “Pirogov” in the capital, as well as the man’s general practitioner.
