The State Congress will analyze an initiative to reform the Health Law so that women are made pregnant by a person they trust during labor, delivery and the puerperium, including the cesarean section procedure.
The proposal to reform section I of article 81 of the Health Law of the State of Durango was presented by local representative María Luisa González López, and was submitted to the Health Commission of the State Congress for analysis and ruling.
The legislator referred to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in the sense that all women have the right to receive the highest level of health care, which includes the right to dignified and respectful care during pregnancy and in childbirth, and the right not to suffer violence or discrimination.
“Unfortunately in the world, many women suffer abuse, disrespectful, offensive or negligent treatment during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum in health centers,” she added.
Under this premise, he said that Congress is obliged to contribute to solving the problem, with the assurance that the presence of a person trusted by women during labor, delivery and postpartum, as well as the cesarean section procedure, In addition to providing all the benefits that the WHO indicates, in Durango it would also serve to significantly inhibit the abuse and negligent treatment of which women and their families have been victims, by health service providers.
