National Sports Council (NSC) like every year has selected talented players (U-16) from the grass root level. Event-wise talented players have been selected in handball, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, weightlifting, cycling, gymnastics, judo, chess, boxing, cricket – these 11 disciplines through nationwide district and upazila sports organizations.
Youth and Sports Minister Nazmul Hasan Papon awarded the certificates to the selected players on Thursday. At this time, he expressed optimism and said, ‘These talented people will one day play in the national team. I will not let the talent be lost.’
The sports minister said, ‘Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave us an independent country. He also took many groundbreaking steps in the development of the country’s sports arena. He established various sports federations. He established the ‘Bangladesh Sports Control Organization’ in 1972 to manage the country’s sports arena properly. Which is today’s ‘National Sports Council’. Under the initiative of this organization created by Bangabandhu, the under-16 sports talent search program is being implemented every year to select talented players (boys and girls) from the grassroots level of the country. This is a remarkable initiative. Basically, this initiative has been taken to bring out talented players from remote areas of the country. We don’t want to let our talent go to waste.’
164 players selected in 11 events at the national level were given 21 days advanced training under the supervision of National Sports Council. Top 5 players in each event will be offered long-term advanced training in the respective federations.
The minister said, ‘All can’t be done just by searching for talent. We will monitor where they are. National team players will be made from here. Who will represent the country in international competitions. It will bring reputation for Bangladesh.’
