These Nuevo León dams were recovered with “Alberto”

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The passage of Cyclone “Alberto” through Nuevo León put an end to the drought that was affecting the entity.

Governor Samuel García reported that at 6:00 in the morning, the La Boca dam had already reached 105% of its capacity with 37.04 million cubic meters of water, so the gates were open to send water to the El Cuchillo dam.

State of the dams at the 3 p.m. cutoff:

  • Cerro Prieto 33.05% of its capacity 99.143 million cubic meters/total capacity 300.00 million cubic meters of water.
  • La Boca 98.49% of its capacity 34,471 million cubic meters / total capacity 35.00 million cubic meters of water.
  • El Cuchillo 56.07% of its capacity 629.768 million cubic meters / total capacity 1,123.14 million cubic meters of water.
  • Libertad 22% of its capacity 45.00 million cubic meters / total capacity 221.83 million cubic meters of water, (cut off at 6 in the morning).

This morning, Governor Samuel García held a press conference to report the dam cuts following the rains caused by “Alberto.”

He asked citizens to continue taking care of themselves since there are still areas of the state that experience intense rain and declared that “all the rivers are full,” so he reminded that rivers, lakes or streams should not be crossed.

He reported that there were areas where it rained more than 500 millimeters, when the prediction they had was between 300 and 350 millimeters, he warned that during the weekend another 100 to 150 millimeters of rain are expected, in addition to the probability that another disturbance, of lower intensity than Alberto, due to humidity and low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico.

He replicated the recommendation to work from home and not go out if not necessary and reminded citizens that classes at all levels will resume on Monday.

He asked the population to report “bare” cables and affected electrical installations to avoid accidents, since three of the four deaths reported were related to electrical issues; “two children who were playing with electricity cables, an adult who was fixing a transformer and a child who was swept away by the La Silla River.”

Regarding the material damage that has been visible, he announced that the three disaster funds to which the state has access will be used; an insurance, a natural disaster trust, a natural disaster reserve trust and “of course we are going to request the federal trust that is now called the national fund for natural disasters.”

The total of these three supports “is around 109 million pesos”, which will be used to repair the cracks in the avenues that were affected, build retaining walls and repair any other damage that appears.

Finally, he highlighted the actions of the security and civil protection forces who responded to more than 3 thousand citizen reports. Tomorrow more information will be given about the status of the dams; For his part, the governor will visit the Cerro Prieto and Libertad dams, and on Sunday, El Cuchillo.
