These drink bottles cannot be exchanged from now on

If we buy champagne or other drinks more expensive than HUF 25,000, we do not necessarily have to pay the extra HUF fifty and then go back to a store with the bottle – writes Portfolio. There was a last-minute amendment, according to which “the DRS system does not come under the purview and the obligations do not have to be fulfilled in the case of a product whose cost value reaches HUF 25,000 and the farmer did not manage to purchase an empty or emptied bottle for registration purposes ” – the paper quotes István Falcsik, RSM’s lawyer and also the head of the customs, excise and product fee consulting business.

However, these represent only a fraction for bottles on the market and beverage packaging. As is known, the packaging of beverage products between one deciliter and three liters can be returned, with the exception of milk-based drinks and milk packaging.

Redeemability is indicated by a pictogram on the packaging, which also indicates the redemption value – this is basically HUF 50, but for some multi-use, i.e. refillable packaging, it can be up to HUF 70.

Here’s what you need to know about beverage bottles

The bottles do not squeeze they are returned together with an undamaged barcode. (Packages bought abroad and included in the exchange system there will basically not be accepted by the Hungarian vending machines.)

The system does not deal with whether the cap is on the bottle or not.

Basically, they will take them back with the help of machines, but small shops where this does not fit, they can also operate a manual system, if they agree to store the packaging undamaged until receipt. These are collected from them by the thousands.

When redeeming, you can receive a voucher that can be redeemed in the store, or the REPoint application using it, we can also transfer the fifty forints to our own account. As a third solution, we can even offer the money to charity.

It is also important to know that from now on it is no longer possible to produce a bottle label that does not have the sign of the redemption system, but for a while there will certainly be packaging on the shelves of stores that they cannot be redeemed.
