There was a stir over the “sample” application, forcing students not to take the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City

A school in Hoc Mon district (Ho Chi Minh City) was accused of creating a form for parents to sign, with content asking students to ‘not participate in the 10th grade entrance exam’.

On the morning of May 11, on a student forum in Ho Chi Minh City, there was a stir over the application “Not participating in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year” from a secondary school in Hoc Mon district.

The application clearly states “Based on the child’s academic results last school year and cognitive ability…, the family finds that it is difficult for the child to attend the high school program – the public system.” . Now I am writing this application to ask the school board to allow my child… not to participate in the 10th grade entrance exam of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City on June 6, 2024.”

Attached is the promise: My family will not complain about any of the following issues, hoping for the school’s approval.

Posted with the image of the application is a message with the content: “The class’s homeroom teacher sent it to the students, telling their parents to sign a commitment because they did not study well and were not allowed to take the 10th entrance exam. The whole city runs KPIs, so every school implements it.“.

According to Mr. Hiep, a 9th grade teacher gave this form to students to fill out and bring it home for parents to sign. The Department is currently asking the school to report this.

Mr. Hiep also confirmed that this incident happened unintentionally by the Department of Education and Training of Hoc Mon district.

“We just held a meeting with schools last week, giving very detailed instructions on those who do not participate in the public 10th grade entrance exam. It is very wrong for Nguyen Van Bua Secondary School to do this.” – the head of the education department emphasized.

The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City takes place on June 6-7. Candidates participate in 4 essay exams including: Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Language (Foreign Language 1 is being studied at school) and a specialized exam according to the subject registered for the 10th grade exam.
