There is no pressure for passengers on the Dhaka-Chandpur route. The launches from Dhaka’s Sadarghat are mostly empty. As usual, the launch is crowded with passengers every half an hour at the ghat. 24 luxury launches are plying on this route during Eid.
The number of passengers of MV Sonartari, Mayur-2, MV Mithali-7 and Bogdadiya launch which left Sadarghat from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Monday (April 8) was seen to be very less. Jam Jam-7 can be seen waiting for passengers from Chandpur Ghat to Sadar Ghat.
Mofizul Islam Khan, a passenger of MV Mithali, said that there would have been a lot of passengers in the launch at this time in other years. I came to Chandpur after standing for 3-4 hours. But this year’s launch journey has been very comfortable. He is a resident of Bishnudi area of Chandpur city.
Fahima Begum, a passenger from Matlab Dakshin from Dhaka, said that she came to celebrate Eid with her children at home. This journey has been very comfortable. I didn’t feel any pain.
Sharif Hossain works in a private company in Dhaka. His home is Raipur in Lakshmipur district. He said that he always goes home from Dhaka via Chandpur because of the comfort of traveling by launch. But this time there is no crowd at the launch, the fare is also the same as before.
Shah Alam, traffic inspector of BIWTA in charge of Chandpur launch ghat, said that in the past years there was no such situation of passengers standing at the ghat. But this time the number of passengers is very less. There will be no problem if there are more passengers tomorrow. We have 24 luxury launches. There is no problem other than natural calamities.
Additional DIG of Naval Police Chandpur Region Mohammad Kamruzzaman visited the launch ghat in the afternoon. At this time he distributed warning leaflets among passengers and autorickshaw drivers. He said that we have made all preparations so that the launches from Sadarghat on Eid can reach their destination safely in the southern region including Chandpur, without being victimized by any kind of robbery or other incident. Our policemen are working. The control room has been opened at the ghat. We will take immediate action if passengers complain of any kind of harassment including charging extra fare at the launch.
